
Gary
J.
Metz
is an expert in the demand reduction
strategies (prevention) of substance abuse education as well as an expert
in cults, sects, and fringe movement intervention. His 25 years experience
in these areas has given him national recognition.
Mr. Metz
is currently the coordinator of Alcohol/Substance Abuse Studies for the State
University of New York at Brockport and an associate professor of Health
Science.
Mr.
Metz is a New York State Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance
Abuse Counselor (CASAC), a Nationally Credentialed Addictions Counselor II
(NCACII), a Master Addiction Counselor (MAC), and a New York State
Prevention Professional (CPP).
Mr. Metz served as
the director for three federal Drug-Free School Discretionary Grants
awarded to New York
State: Project LIFE I (a teacher substance-abuse prevention/awareness
program), Project LIFE II (a school based support personnel grant for
psychologists, social workers, and counselors), and Project SASA (Sheriffs
Against Substance Abuse), a law enforcement substance-abuse educator
training program.
Mr. Metz
has also served as director for the Near East and South Asia
Regional Project on Drug Education and Public Awareness,
as consultant to the Brazil and South America Project on Substance Abuse
Prevention and Treatment, and as associate director of the New York State
Governor’s Task Force on Alcoholism Treatment in Criminal Justice.
Gary Metz
holds bachelor and master degrees in Health Science and a second master
degree in Public Administration. He has received many awards for his
prevention efforts in substance abuse including the Award of Honor by the
International Narcotics Enforcement Officers Association (INEOA), the Phi
Beta Delta International Scholars Medal for Drug Prevention, and the State
University
of New York Office of Academic Affairs Career Achievement Award for
External Grant Awards.
