David
A.
Monk
is nationally
recognized as an expert in both the supply (enforcement) and demand
(education/prevention) strategies of substance abuse education. He has
over 25 years experience in these areas.
Mr. Monk is currently the associate director of Law
Enforcement Education Programs for Monroe Community College Public Safety
Training Center and an adjunct professor at the State University of New
York College at Brockport, in the Health Science and Public Administration
Departments.
Mr. Monk is a New York State Credentialed Alcohol and Substance
Abuse Counselor (CASAC), a Certified Addictions Specialist (C.A.S.)
adjudicated by the American Academy of Health Care Providers in Addiction
Disorders, a New York State Credentialed Prevention Professional (CPP), a master instructor certified by the New York State Division of
Criminal Justice Services, and a certified personal trainer and physical
fitness specialist certified by the Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research
in Dallas, Texas.
David Monk served as associate director of two federal
Drug-Free School Discretionary Grants awarded to New York State: Project
LIFE (a teacher substance-abuse prevention/awareness program) and Project
SASA (a law enforcement substance-abuse education program). He retired
after 20 years of service on the Rochester (NY) Police Department, with 14
years in narcotic and drug gang investigations, including five years with
the Drug Enforcement Administration.
David Monk holds an associate degree in Police
Science, a bachelor degree in Criminal Justice, and a masters degree in
Public Administration. Monk has received numerous awards and commendations
for his prevention efforts in substance abuse including Police Officer of
the Year by the Rochester Jaycees, the Meritorious Public Service Award by
the Monroe County Council Veterans of Foreign Wars, Award of Honor by the
International Narcotics Enforcement Officers Association (INEOA), and the
Public Service Award for Outstanding Community Service by the Brockport
Alumni Association.
